Week 13, Question 3

I really enjoyed learning about emotional barriers this week. I really think emotional barriers are something I can relate to because I am an emotional person. I always seek advice from others when it comes to making decisions that could affect me emotionally. I don’t like to take risk with my emotions so I play it safe. I tend to push others away from me so I protect my emotions. I rather not ask then ask and be rejected. Our books says, “Creative answers require a willingness to take a chance, to think out loud and risk being wrong…Fear of making a mistake often causes us to limit our creativity. In a sense, we have lost our right to be wrong.” (pg.169) I find this interesting because it is something everyone does, they let their emotions get in the way of their creativity. We have to be willing to challenge what it is we think we are experts and “safe” with in order to make our creativity boundaries larger.

  1. I found this concept really interesting to read about this week. I also like to hear out other people’s opinions when making emotional decisions because I want to make the “perfect” decision. The quote you chose from the book is totally inline with what I feel like sometimes when making a decision. Being rejected is hard, and allowing yourself to be put in that position is even harder. To be creative, you sometimes have to go outside of your comfort zone, which may or may not be agreeable with other people. I like how you said we need to challenge ourselves and make our creativity boundaries larger, which is so true. Overcoming our fear and feeling of playing it safe will open up many options that we may have overlooked from the beginning.

  2. Little miss. Cheerleader, I also enjoyed this chapter in the book because I am too emotional, and a lot of my decisions are driven based on those emotions. Being afraid to ask questions because of the fear of rejection is something I as well experience and is something that gets in the way of my creativity. The quote you pulled from the book sums up the idea because it explains why most people shy away from creativity. I think it is something that goes through every ones minds if what they are about to say will be accepted or not, and the most creative ones are mostly the ones with the most courage/confidence.

  3. Good job on your post this week! I think everyone can relate to emotional barriers because we are all emotional in some way. I like how you stated that “I always seek advise from others when it comes to making decisions that could affect me emotionally” because I am the same way. I hate making the wrong decision then getting hurt or angry in the end. I feel that it’s good to ask people for advice on decisions like these because having a second opinion is very helpful. Another thing that I thought was very honest was how you stated that everyone lets “their emotions get in the way of their creativity” because we do we analyzes things way too much and it really declines are creativity.
