Week 16, Question 2

This class has been by far, no joke, one of my most interesting communication classes. I loved really learning about small groups in depth. I loved being able to really go out and put to use the concepts and write about them in our final paper. My favorite part of this class was our movie paper. I did my paper on the movie Mean Girls and it was so much fun! I loved that we got to look into how movies created small groups and how those groups can really influence a movie. I was torn when I picked what movie to do because so many of the ones on the list really would have been fun to look at and report on. I also liked how we had notes from you every week. That really helped clear up questions. The only thing I would have changed was I would have liked to see what everyone else was doing for their small group paper. It would have been nice to get ideas from others as well as just see what it is others are doing!

  1. Hi Little M. Cheerleader :)

I did my paper on Mean Girls too and I had a great time applying concepts to it! I'm glad you felt the same. Your post made me think more about what I would have liked to see from this course, and I realized I would have liked for our comments to have notifications so that we could see if someone made a relevant comment after our own peer responses. It's hard to remember what blogs we posted on sometimes, and if we don't remember then it will be hard to seek them to see if anyone made more comments after our own. This has been a great semester in this course!

  2. I also loved the movie concept paper, and thought it was fun to look deeper into our chosen film. I chose the movie Gung Ho!, and if you have never seen it I insist you do. Michael Keaton was fab and handsome and the movie was classic 80's funny in many ways. I also liked the instructors blog and our own blogs for that matter. I also would have loved to read each others papers either the concept paper or the group observation paper.

  3. Good job on your post! I totally agree with you on how your “favorite part of this class was our movie paper” because we all watch movies all the time because there entertaining and fun but we never really analysis them. That’s why by doing this assignment we got to see things we would have never caught on to had we not been assigned to find similar situations in the film that we can relate to our concepts. The movie I chose to analysis was “Saving Private Ryan”. Its one of my top favorite war movies and I never knew how much this movie relates to small group communication until I analyzed it using concepts from this course!

  4. I agree this class has been much better than I expected. I thought that it was fun and interesting because how important small groups are, and how much we are involved with them. I thought this class was interesting as well because we learned these concepts all year and then had a chance to apply them to a life situation. The movie project was fun as well because they were fun movies to watch, but also all had groups that greatly influenced the plot. I thought that was funny because I had seen the movie I did that project on plenty of times, but when watching it and trying to apply concepts to it I saw it in a whole different light! I agree with your one improvement that would have been a big help to get ideas from other people because I had some trouble thinking of a group to observe.
